Champagne Matthieu-Nicolas
Sibling growers from Cuchery, Vallée de la Marne
Our Story & Origin
Matthieu and Nicolas Moussé are two brothers carrying a twelve-generation family story in Champagne. After studying viticulture in Avize (Matthieu) and marketing and business (Nicolas), they both worked for other domaines before deciding to return home and relaunch the family vines under their own name: Champagne Matthieu-Nicolas.
Based in the village of Cuchery on the right bank of the Marne Valley, they farm around five hectares spread across Cuchery, Cuisles, Jonquery, Fleury-la-Rivière and Damery. Their aim is simple: express the character of Meunier and their hillsides with precision, freshness, and a modern, low-input approach to farming. Each cuvée is built around careful parcel selection, long lees ageing and a gentle touch in the cellar, producing champagnes that are serious at the table but still joyful to drink.
Terroir & Viticulture
The domaine’s parcels lie on the clay-limestone slopes of the Vallée de la Marne’s right bank, with a strong presence of Pinot Meunier, complemented by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The brothers are steadily converting the estate to a more ecological model: grass cover between the rows to protect soils and encourage biodiversity, reduced herbicides and insecticides, and more mechanical work in the vines, with a clear goal of HVE certification. In the cellar, fermentations are clean and controlled, with élevage chosen to keep freshness and texture at the forefront.
